Deftones Score First Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 With “My Mind Is A Mountain” While Setting Chart Longevity Record

Deftones claim their first No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with “My Mind Is a Mountain,” which jumps two places to reach the top spot this week. This marks a record-breaking 27-year, three-month, and one-week wait since Deftones first chart appearance in 1998, the longest wait for the first No. 1 hit by any group in the chart’s 44-year history. The song also reached new heights on Alternative Airplay (reaching No. 25) and the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart (No. 7), becoming the band’s highest-ranking track in years. Released August 22 as the lead single from their 10th album, Private Music, “My Mind Is a Mountain” surpassed the chart success of previous Deftones hits, while also eclipsing the group longevity record set in July by Evanescence, who waited more than 22 years between their chart debut, “Bring Me to Life,” and the 2025 No. 1 hit “Afterlife.” Deftones’ feat comes only one week after Yellowcard set the longevity record on the Alternative Airplay chart.
